It's the inevitable meeting of the sourpusses! Garfield, the reigning cynical cat of newspapers and TV crosses paths with Grumpy Cat, the internet sensation whose scowl endeared herself to the world. Who's the most sarcastic? Well, he likes lasagna and not much else...and she doesn't even like lasagna. Can these two inhabit the same comic book mini-series, let alone the same planet? You'll find out in a trio of issues written by Mark Evanier and illustrated by Steve Uy. We'd say it's the cat's meow but neither of these cats meows.

Philip Zimbardo - The Lucifer Effect Understanding How Good People Turn Evil (2007)

What makes good people do bad things? How can moral people be seduced to act immorally? Where is the line separating good from evil, and who is in danger of crossing it?

Renowned social psychologist Philip Zimbardo has the answers, and in The Lucifer Effect he explains how–and the myriad reasons why–we are all susceptible to the lure of “the dark side.” Drawing on examples from history as well as his own trailblazing research, Zimbardo details how situational forces and group dynamics can work in concert to make monsters out of decent men and women.

Zimbardo is perhaps best known as the creator of the Stanford Prison Experiment. Here, for the first time and in detail, he tells the full story of this landmark study, in which a group of college-student volunteers was randomly divided into “guards” and “inmates” and then placed in a mock prison environment. Within a week the study was abandoned, as ordinary college students were transformed into either brutal, sadistic guards or emotionally broken prisoners.

By illuminating the psychological causes behind such disturbing metamorphoses, Zimbardo enables us to better understand a variety of harrowing phenomena, from corporate malfeasance to organized genocide to how once upstanding American soldiers came to abuse and torture Iraqi detainees in Abu Ghraib. He replaces the long-held notion of the “bad apple” with that of the “bad barrel”–the idea that the social setting and the system contaminate the individual, rather than the other way around.

This is a book that dares to hold a mirror up to mankind, showing us that we might not be who we think we are. While forcing us to reexamine what we are capable of doing when caught up in the crucible of behavioral dynamics, though, Zimbardo also offers hope. We are capable of resisting evil, he argues, and can even teach ourselves to act heroically. The Lucifer Effect is a shocking, engrossing study that will change the way we view human behavior.

The Stanford Prison Experiment (2015) BRRip

What happens when a college psych study goes shockingly wrong? In this tense, psychological thriller based on the notorious true story, Stanford University professor Dr. Philip Zimbardo, who, in 1971, cast 24 student volunteers as prisoners and guards in a simulated jail to examine the source of abusive behavior in the prison system. The results astonished the world, as participants went from middle-class undergrads to drunk-with-power sadists and submissive victims in just a few days. The Stanford Prison Experiment is a chilling, edge-of-your-seat thriller about the dark side of power and the effects of imprisonment.

Moebius - Blueberry (1989-1990)

Who was the man known to us as Blueberry? This bizarre and unusual name belonged to a mysterious soldier of fortune whose trail can be followed through the history of the American West, a figure who appeared to have been involved in some of the most dramatic events in American history, but who always remained behind the scenes.

The West is rife with legends and tall tales of men such as Jesse James, Billy the Kid, the Dalton Brothers, Wild Bill Hitchcock, and even better known figures such as General George Armstrong Custer. But the casual researcher will be able to locate only a few, incomplete stories about the man named Blueberry. No pulps were written about him, no serials were made about his exploits and, until recently, his very existence had sunk into an obscurity that he would have most likely welcomed.

Moebius - Airtight Garage (1993)

The Airtight Garage is an asteroid built by a former Earthman who has since become a world-shaper. The man, Major Gruber, fell through a trans-time circle while fighting the war in Viet Nam. This transported him to a technologically advanced place called Randomearth SDX, where he met Lewis and Erik Carnellan. Eventually, these three would encounter Nagual, the Lord Creator of Worlds. They would become Nagual’s servants in the fight against the Bakalites, who sought to uncreate the universe.

Eventually, Erik defected to the side of the Bakalites and Major Gruber fled, stealing some of Nagual’s technology. With it, he created the Airtight Garage, itself the home of several “pocket universes” or “levels.” These levels ranged from the desert universe of the Third Level to the First Level, where the Major kept Nagual’s technology. As the story begins, the Bakalites are seeking to invade the First Level. If they succeed, the universe may perish!
