R. Crumb - Book of Genesis

The Book of Genesis is a best-selling comic book illustrated by cartoonist and comic book artist Robert Crumb that purports to be a faithful, literal illustration of the Book of Genesis from the Hebrew Bible. Given Crumb's past body of work, and his professed rejection of religion, many assumed when the book was announced that it would be a satire or otherwise profane or subversive send-up, and were surprised or disappointed to find it "straight-faced". Crumb resisted the temptation to go all-out Crumb on us and exaggerate the sordidness, the primitivism and the outright strangeness found in the Bible—the depictions of sex are explicit, but not gratuitous. In his introduction to the book, Crumb writes he has "faithfully reproduced every word of the original text," each word hand-lettered. The book's cover contains the warning, "Adult Supervision Recommended for Minors".

R. Crumb - San Francisco Comic Books

In April 1968, Gary Arlington opened the San Francisco Comic Book Company, one of the very  first 'comics only' book stores, in the city's Mission district. As guru and "godfather" of  underground comics, he encouraged and directed many artists on their path to publication.  His tiny 200-square-foot store became the underground nexus where artists met, discussed  projects and exchanged ideas. He also published several series of early comix, namely Skull  Comics, Slow Death Comics and, of course, San Francisco Comic Book (issue no. 1 of this  series is very rare and has become much sought after by comix collectors).

R. Crumb - Yellow Dog Comics

One of the oldest and longest-running underground titles (bettered only by Weirdo), Yellow  Dog started life as an underground newspaper before becoming a regular-sized publication.
Despite some nice Robert Crumb art, the earliest issues were very insubstantial, consisting  largely of dope-oriented vignettes and scatological humor.

Andrew Morton - Tom Cruise An Unauthorized Biography

Everyone knows Tom Cruise—or at least what he wants us to know. We know that the man behind the smile overcame a tough childhood to star in astonishing array of blockbusters: Top Gun, Rain Man, Born on the Fourth of July, A Few Good Men, Jerry Maguire, three Mission: Impossible movies, and more. We know he has taken artistic chances, too, earning him three Academy Award and Golden Globe nominations. But beyond that, the picture becomes a bit less clear…

We know that Tom is a devoted follower of the Church of Scientology. We know that, despite persistent rumors about his sexuality, he has been married to Mimi Rogers, Nicole Kidman, and Katie Holmes. But it was not until he jumped on Oprah’s couch to proclaim his love for Katie and denounced Brooke Shields for turning to the “Nazi science” of psychiatry that we began to realize how much we did not know about the charming, hardworking star. For all the headlines and the rumors, the real Tom Cruise has remained surprisingly hidden—until now.
