Andy Kaufman - I'm From Hollywood (1989) DVDRip

Performance footage and interviews combine to offer a hilarious look at controversial comedian Andy Kauffman's surreal journey into the world of professional wrestling. He had kept Americans in stitches as a featured player on the hit television sitcom Taxi, but Kaufman would single-handedly destroy his small-screen career when he went on television to taunt Memphis-based professional wrestler Jerry "The King" Lawler", and challenged females to fight him in the ring. As Kaufman put every ounce of his energy into taunting Lawler, his abrasive form of comedic performance art alienated the fan-base that had so ardently supported him during his days as lovable, squeaky-voiced cabbie Latka Gravas on the series that propelled him to stardom. In this documentary, fans are offered a rare glimpse into the genius of a comic who was so effective at duping the audience that many assumed his diagnoses with terminal cancer was just another warped gag.

The Critic - Season 2

The show follows the life of 36-year-old film critic from New York named Jay Prescott Sherman. His televised review show is called Coming Attractions, which airs on the Philips Broadcasting cable network. He is also "cold, mean-spirited, and elitist". His signature line, upon seeing a terrible movie, is "It stinks!" Each episode is full of film references and parodies. Some of the secondary characters that are a part of Jay's story include his nutty adoptive father, his well-meaning son Marty, the Australian movie star Jeremy Hawke, Margo--the biological child of his adoptive parents, his snide make-up lady Doris, and his boss Duke Phillips. In the second season, Jay acquired a love interest--a Southern woman named Alice Tompkins, who later became his long-term girlfriend.

The Critic - Season 1

Jay Sherman is a pudgy, balding, middle aged New York movie critic who hosts the show 'Coming Attractions'. Jay despises blockbuster movies and can't help insulting everyone's favourite films. This makes him terribly unpopular with just about everybody, especially the owner of the TV station, who wants to dumb the show down, or preferably get rid of it. ("Your job is to rate movies on a scale from "good" to "excellent"). This rarely works though, and Jay will inevitably break out into his signature phrase, "It stinks!" Jay's adopted parents are rich socialites, his best friend is a Paul Hogan-ish Australian, he has a son, an estranged wife and faint hopes of a new romance.

J. Sheridan LeFanu - Carmilla (2007)

Published in 1872, Carmilla is an early work in the vampire literature genre and is incidentally one of the most influential of its type. The gothic novella accounts the tale of Laura, a young woman who becomes susceptible to the friendship and seductive charms of the mysterious Carmilla. A gripping tale of coincidence, mystery, compulsion, dark romance, and deception, Le Fanu’s classic is regarded as having paved the way for modern takes on vampires. Carmilla predates Bram Stoker's Dracula by over twenty years.
