Frank Miller - Batman The Dark Knight Strikes Again

e446de67f5[1]

The Dark Knight Strikes Again is Frank Miller's follow-up to his hugely successful Batman: the  Dark Knight Returns. Set three years after the events of The Dark Knight Returns, The Dark  Knight Strikes Again follows a similar structure: once again, Batman hauls himself out of his  self-imposed retirement in order to set things right. However, where DKR was about him  cleaning up his home city, Gotham, DKSA has him casting his net much wider: he's out to  save the world. The thing is, most of the world doesn't realize that it needs to be saved--least  of all Superman and Wonder Woman, who have become little more than superpowered  enforcers of the status quo. So, the notoriously solitary Batman is forced to recruit some  different superpowered allies. He also has his ever-present trusty sidekick, Robin, except that  he is a she, and she is calling herself Catwoman. Together, these super-friends uncover a vast  and far-reaching conspiracy that leads to the President of the United States (Lex Luthor) and  beyond.

Kevin David Anderson - Night of the Living Trekkies

6e46e585a9[1]

This sci-fi/zombie/comedy/adventure follows a group of rag-tag Trekkies getting together for  the fifth annual GulfCon (billed as the “largest Starfleet Convention in the western Gulf Coast  region”). Our heroes are dressed in homemade uniforms and armed with prop phasers-but  soon find themselves defending their hotel and convention center against hordes of flesh- eating undead. Suddenly, all of their useless knowledge about particle physics and old Star  Trek episodes has genuine real-world applications! And while hotel employees and regular  civilians are dying left and right, our Trekkies summon strength and courage by emulating  their favorite starship-voyaging characters. Packed with hundreds of gags referencing Star  Trek, Star Wars, comic books, and fan conventions, Night of the Living Trekkies reads like the  strange lovechild of Galaxy Quest and Dawn of the Dead.

Gary K. Wolf - Who P-P-P-Plugged Roger Rabbit

d3028bac98[1]

The story starts out with Eddie Valiant at the front door of Roger Rabbit's house. Almost  immediately after he is let inside the house, Roger tells him about the upcoming Gone with  the Wind toon adaptation and how he has a chance to play the lead as Rhett Butler. However,  the Telltale News, a newspaper that tends to Toons, prints an article about Jessica Rabbit and  her relationship with Clark Gable. Valiant primarily declines, stressing that he promised his  wife, 'Doris' (who seems to be Dolores from the movie), that he wouldn't take such work  anymore. However, he takes the job because of the quote Roger announces. From this simple  case, the story branches out to the murders of Kirk Enigman (another candidate for the part of  Rhett Butler), Baby Herman, and Dodger Rabbit (Roger Rabbit's evil cousin).Audio book from  the library for the blind.

Gary K. Wolf - Who Censored Roger Rabbit

28d8a8e21a[1]

Eddie Valiant is a hard-boiled private eye, and Roger Rabbit is a second banana cartoon star.  The rabbit hires Valiant to find out why his employers, the DeGreasy Brothers, the sleazy  owners of a cartoon syndicate, have reneged on a promise to give Roger his own strip. Soon  after, Roger is mysteriously murdered in his home. His speech balloon, found on the crime  scene, indicates his murder was a way of "censoring" the star, who apparently had just heard  someone explain the source of his success. Valiant's search for the killer takes him to a  variety of suspects, including Roger's widow Jessica Rabbit and his former co-star Baby  Herman. Audio book from the library for the blind.
