One of the most influential artists of the underground generation, Vaughn Bode is a hero to a generation of graffiti artists. He died at a tragically young age in 1975, Junkwaffel is a collection of Bode's science-fiction oriented tales, including the anti-war "Machines" and the ominous "Cobalt 60" and "The Junkwaffel Papers". More recently, his work has been referenced in song by hip hop legends like the Beastie Boys. As such, Bode occupies a truly unique niche in the world of underground comics, embraced by both the hippie counterculture of the 1960s as well as the hip hop community of the 1990s.
